I want to inform the House that I and others will be participating in this year's Dry July.

Participating in Dry July means that I will be going alcohol-free for the entire month of July to raise funds to support adults living with cancer. Last year, Dry July raised over $4.2 million in Australia and helped 31 cancer services.

Dry July is about clearing your head and making a difference: get healthy, challenge yourself, encourage positive change and a healthy attitude to alcohol consumption. I encourage members of this House to sign up to the initiative at www.dryjuly.com and go head-to-head with me. Or if you do not sign up, consider donating by searching for someone you know on the website or visiting their Facebook page and following the links.

Many in this House would know of my commitment to raising the awareness of cancer services, sufferers, survivors and thrivers, and this is just another way that I can do that in our local community. I am also very passionate about the issues surrounding excess alcohol consumption, so any initiative that promotes responsible drinking attitudes and behaviours should be commended and supported.
