I want to pay tribute to the work done in my electorate by the Friends of Braeside Park. Braeside Park is a large area of restored native vegetation which forms part of the Kingston green wedge. This an important attribute of planning in my electorate because it provides relief from the large areas of suburban development that otherwise dominate most of the electorate. Braeside Park represents a very important area of native vegetation within the electorate because most of the native vegetation of the Port Phillip area has been removed by the processes of settlement over the last 150 or 160 years. The consequence is that there are very few areas of native vegetation. But through careful replanting and study of the indigenous species of the Port Phillip area, it has proved possible to achieve a situation whereby some areas of, in effect, rehabilitated indigenous vegetation have now been created. The Friends of Braeside Park work at weekends during the year on organised planting sessions with the assistance of state authorities. (Time expired)
