No number of carve-outs can fix a bad tax. The only solution is to scrap it, and that's never been clearer than it is today with Labor's toxic taxes. I've heard from a 73-year-old widow on Phillip Island, in my electorate, who has worked hard all her life. She's paid her taxes, invested for retirement and simply wants to leave something behind for her family. Instead, she's worried this federal government's tax changes will punish the very people she has spent decades trying to provide for.
I've also heard from grandparents in my electorate who are concerned about what these changes mean for some of the most vulnerable members of their family. Think about that for a moment. It is families who will suffer the most. Indeed, one family contacted me about their daughter who lives with a intellectual disability. Under normal circumstances, she would inherit directly from her parents, but, because she needs support managing her affairs, her inheritance must be held in a testamentary trust. Labor now wants to tax that arrangement.
This is unfair and unjust, and there are many other cases of families in my electorate of Monash who deserve so much better from this federal Labor government.
